I've done a new reading for Episode #114 of the Escape Pod podcast.  The story, "Cloud Dragon Skies" by N. K. Jemisin, was first published in Strange Horizons, August 2005

Nora Jemisin's work has appeared in Ideomancer and Fishnet among other publications.  She has received an Honorable Mention in the 18th Year's Best Fantasy and Horror and is on the Recommended Shortlist for the 2006 Carl Brandon Society awards. As of January this year, Ms Jemisin was finishing up the second novel of a trilogy set in the world of "The Narcomancer".

"I was a child when the sky changed. I can still remember days when it was endlessly blue, the clouds passive and gentle. The change occurred without warning: one morning we awoke and the sky was a pale, blushing rose. We began to see intention in the slow, ceaseless movements of the clouds. Instead of floating, they swam spirals in the sky. They gathered in knots, trailing wisps like feet and tails. We felt them watching us."

After lots of waiting, anxious pacing and temporary recording solutions, the Superior AudioWorks main studio is getting a new look and new equipment!

New microphones were added last winter.  The replacement for the primary PC in the studio finally arrived and was installed last week.  New internet service is scheduled to be installed this week.  Things have ended up moving more slowly than planned, but they are moving along.

All of the upgrades over the last several months were needed to make some of the new things for Season 2 of KnitWitch's Scifi/Fantasy Zone possible:

~ Improved sound quality
~ Listener call-ins for contests & giveaways
~ Live listener interaction with guests during interviews
~ Portable recording for live events & on-the-street interviews

Look for an update episode for the Zone soon before the end of the month.

The Zone has a new Voicemail service and phone number!

303.991.9096

I tried really hard to get Z-O-N-E in our new number but just ended up with a lot of 9's again instead.  Oh well...

Update your phonebooks and keep this number handy for the launch of season two of KnitWitch's Scifi/Fantasy Zone!  New activity should be getting underway in April!

Well I'm feeling incredibly sheepish finally getting around to making a post now.  Sorry about vanishing without a post here (although I did update the main website a while back)...  I've had to put everything with the podcast and websites on autopilot to attend to some other areas of life.

Folks who know me personally know that this time of the year at work is normally hectic but there were a few new & unexpected twists added to the mix that have had me working extra hours.  By the end of the day/week my energy is at record lows and any creativity is laying dormant.  Thus, minimal recording and no podcasting for the time being.

I've been keeping in touch with a few listeners while the show's been down and it has been great to hear from folks.  Keep the email coming...  I'm still considering making some changes to the show format and will be adding some familiar things back into the main website as well as the blog and forum sites, so I'd love to hear from you.  I am getting back into laying out ideas to start back up with season two of KnitWitch's Scifi/Fantasy Zone.

Interviews, contests, giveaways, listener-created content, guest skits and more are on the way for Season Two of the Zone.

The story of the Failed Cities continues and Fera has returned once more to tell her part of the tale...

It has truly been a pleasure and an honor to work with the folks at Variant Frequencies on this project.  Matt Wallace has written a fierce story that I have enjoyed being a part of and giving voice to one of its characters.

You can now subscribe to the Failed Cities Monologues at Podiobooks.com as well as from the Variant Frequencies website (see the links with the episode summary below).

****
Fera's past is written in her own scarred flesh. Tonight, watching her lifeblood run slowly into the gutters of the Failed Cities, hear that history recounted by Fera's own mind as she battles the one enemy that has threatened her for so long like no other: Death . . .

Written by Matt Wallace
Narrated by Maia "KnitWitch" Whitaker

Several months ago, a friend set up a space on his Zazzle store to post some KnitWitch's Scifi/Fantasy Zone items.  Well over time, we've had a lot of hits from people browsing, but no purchases yet.

I'm not trying to make alot of money of this stuff... Enough to buy my own Zone shirt would make me happy! Why not be the first in your quadrant with the Zone Blackhole mug (shown above) or T-shirt.

The Zazzle store is an interactive interface so you can mix it up and put the logo on different t-shirt and mug styles to find just what fits your particular taste.  Thank you so much to Jake Bertrand for creating and managing the Zone online store!

I hope you'll check it out and send me a picture of you with or wearing your new Zone stuff!
